A happy home for one cat.

Do you want to help save the lives of animals in need in Carteret County? Encore Pets is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization absolutely dedicated to finding homes for homeless or abandoned animals. We seek to save lives by placing homeless animals in permanent homes and ending pet overpopulation in our area. Encore Pets is looking for a volunteer to act as the Cat Program Coordinator. The Cat Coordinator facilitates all aspects of placing cats in permanent homes, and we can’t do it without you! In just the last year, we have placed over 80 cats in loving homes and since 2007 we have re-homed over 430 cats and dogs. Our shelters are crowded, strays are abundant, and kitten season is just starting. Encore Pets makes a difference in the lives of cats and families with every placement we make.

Come be a part of the solution.

Responsibilities

Cat Selection and Adoptions

Carefully choose cats for the program from local animal shelters, strays, and requests for owner turn-ins. The coordinator needs to balance the need to rescue hard to re-home animals that will likely not survive the shelter, or will linger there, with the need to find animals that will be successfully rehomed.

Veterinary Care

The Cat Coordinator is responsible for scheduling animal wellness and sickness appointments at supporting veterinary clinics.

PetSmart Adoption Center

PetSmart in Morehead City offers local animal rescue groups access to the cat care center. Encore Pets has cat spaces at the center, and the Cat Coordinator will manage our cats at the PetSmart Center.

Foster Homes

Encore Pets maintains foster families for cats that have just been spayed/neutered, or are recovering from an illness and are not fit for the PetSmart cat center.

Qualifications

Passionate about rescue, loves cats.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Computer literate (email, basic Microsoft Office document knowledge, internet).

Self-starter, excellent organization skills, clear communicator and good inter-personal skills.

Get started.

Email info@encorepets.org or call 252-247-1747 today

Each cat or dog that we rescue, either by pulling from a local shelter or by stray, costs Encore Pets money. Sometimes we have to pay the shelter’s adoption fee, and we always take the animal to a local veterinarian for a full checkup. Often the animal has not yet been spayed or neutered, has worms, heartworms, or some other health issue – remember Rita and Jake and their leg problems? And Buddy with his eye problems? All of these cost money. Then there is the food, flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, and other regular costs that we all know exist with pet ownership and exist just as much for our animals in foster care.

Our adoption fees don’t cover all of these expenses for each animal. Adoption fees are intended to offset the costs, yes, and also to ensure the adopter is really serious about taking on a dependent (if only we could deduct them from our taxes!) But we are always raising additional funds to help pay the full expenses of our rescue program. Some of this is through grants, some is through the events you all so generously attend and contribute to, some of it comes from our wonderful sponsors/donors/supporters.

Now, some of it will come from our “Ice” raffle! You pick: an amazing photograph print of Antarctica from local artist/ecologist Ari Friedlaender or a $500 gift certificate to Diamond Shoal Jewelers… Ice in two forms, both enjoyable!

You can purchase tickets from any of our volunteers, or from our local sponsors:

Adrianne’s Hair Studio

NY Deli

Seaside Cheesecake Dessert Shoppe

Or by calling 252-247-1747. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.

We’ll also be selling tickets at the Spay 2 Save Mobile Clinic which will be visiting the Beaufort Music Festival May 11 & 12.

Drawing will be held May 17th, winner will be notified via phone or email.

Encore Pet’s thanks everyone who made the Third Annual Encore Pets Spay-ghetti and No-Balls Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction a success! We raised over $5,000, which will go directly toward the start-up expenses of our new high-quality, high-volume mobile spay/neuter clinic, Spay 2 Save.

The dinner was held on Friday, March 23rd. We thank the History Place of Morehead City and Cindi Hamilton for providing a great location for the event. The dinner could not have happened without the generous contributions from Jerry and Ann Maiolo of NY Deli who provided the spaghetti dinner, Forrest Berry of Seaside Cheesecake Dessert Shoppe and Jenn Dunn who donated desserts, Amos Mosquitoes who donated appetizers, Panera Bread who donated bread, Dunkin Donuts who donated coffee, and Chick-Fil-A who donated iced tea for the dinner.

We are grateful to the forty-one businesses and individuals who provided donations for our silent auction! All of the silent auction donors are listed on the Encore Pets website. We appreciate the support of each and every one.

Thank you to the fantastic Encore Pets volunteers who helped before, during, and after the dinner, under the leadership of Mary Marks and Kim Ball. These volunteers worked tirelessly to make sure the evening went off without a hitch. As an all-volunteer organization, we rely entirely on each individual’s service and commitment to the welfare of animals in our community.

Thank you to Matt Besch of In Your Head Advertising for designing the dinner posters, our Spay 2 Save logo, the mobile clinic’s exterior graphic design and future website. Thanks also to Neal of CCBS & Sign Shop for applying the graphics to the mobile clinic.

Last but not least, we thank everyone who came to the Third Annual Encore Pets Spay-ghetti and No-Balls Dinner for their support of Encore Pets’ spay/neuter program. Without the community’s support, fundraising efforts and love of animals, we could not have had such a successful fundraiser.

The highlight of the evening was a special sneak-preview of the new Spay 2 Save mobile spay/neuter clinic. With the very generous support of the Brandt Animal Foundation, PetSmart Charities, the ASPCA, the North Carolina Community Foundation, and the many charitable donations from individuals in our community and beyond, we have purchased and outfitted a state-of-the-art mobile spay/neuter clinic.

Spay 2 Save will provide high-quality, high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter services to Carteret County as early as summer 2012. The mobile unit can accommodate over 25 animals a day, resulting in the spay/neuter of over 5,000 cats and dogs a year.

Spay and neuter is the number one solution to the pet overpopulation problem. The Spay 2 Save clinic is dedicated to the memory of Gunhilde Brandt, whose vision & generosity continue to improve the lives of animals in Carteret County, and to Matthew Knoop, whose love of animals inspires us all.

As Encore Pets approaches its five-year anniversary this May, we look forward to many more years of helping animals and their families. To learn more about Encore Pets and how you can be a part of helping us help more animals, please join us at our next volunteer meeting on Tuesday, April 17th, 7:00 pm, at the Train Depot (1001 Arendell St, Morehead City). For more details, go to www.encorepets.org, www.facebook.com/EncorePets, or call (252) 247-1747.
