The tide is turning in coastal North Carolina with plans to start our own new, low-cost mobile spay/neuter clinic, based in Carteret County. Staffed with a NC-licensed veterinarian and technicians, our mobile unit will serve the needs of low-income pet owners in our community, as well as local animal shelters, rescue groups, and feral cat care-givers. The mobile clinic will be equipped to spay/neuter 25-35 cats and dogs a day, five days a week, at a reduced cost. When not in use as a spay/neuter clinic, the mobile-unit can be used as a mobile adoption center and as an emergency response vehicle during a disaster.
Many of you have brought your pets to the low-cost spay/neuter clinics offered by Encore Pets and the Pet Overpopulation Patrol-North Carolina (POP-NC), which comes from Chapel Hill three or four times a year to the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort. Now, imagine if we had our own mobile clinic, operating five days a week, throughout the year, which could travel to different neighborhoods in our county? Also imagine how many pet owners and animals we could help by offering low-cost spay/neuter services on a regular basis? Let’s stop imagining— you can help make it happen! The mobile spay/neuter clinic is the best vehicle to help us help more animals and their families in our community.
We need $275,000 to open the new mobile clinic, and we are whiskers away from reaching this goal! Through a generous fund-matching commitment from the Gunhilde Brandt Animal Care Fund, we only need to raise $30,000 by December 31, 2011. For every $1 you donate, we receive $5 in matching funds from the Gunhilde Brandt Animal Care Fund. If you donate $100, a total of $600 will go directly toward a new mobile spay/neuter clinic for coastal NC!
By joining together as a community, we can reduce the number of unwanted, homeless animals.
Spaying and neutering our pets is the #1 solution to the pet overpopulation problem.
