Cat or Dog Foster

One of the most important ways you can help is to foster. Read more about fostering here.

  • Encore Pets covers all expenses (vaccines, flea treatment, all veterinary care, food and litter/crate)
  • You provide the home and love
  • If possible, you transport the animal to vet appointments and adoption events (transportation can be arranged if you are not available)

Please contact us today if you can provide foster homes for dogs or cats, or fill out an online dog foster application or cat foster application.

Adopt-a-thon Lead

Help advance our cat and dog rescue program through public outreach events.

  • Run ~2 adopt-a-thons a month (usually every-other Saturday afternoon at PetSmart but can include other venues)
  • Coordinate with PetSmart (or other venue) and the Dog, Cat and Volunteer Program Coordinators
  • Time commitment: ~10 hours a month, usually Saturdays/weekends
  • Skills needed: organization, good people skills, flexibility

Dog Program Assistant

Help our animal rescue mission by assisting in our Dog Rescue Program.

  • Visit shelters, transport dogs locally, screen fosters & adopters, answer email & phone calls
  • Time commitment: ~10-20 hours a week including occasional weekends & evenings
  • Skills needed: Passion for rescue! Good organization & people skills. Flexible schedule; ability to set boundaries; good problem solving skills; ability to work well with others, and independently

Assistant Newsletter Editor

Assist the Pet Newsletter Editor in creating the monthly Pet Newsletter.

  • Coordinate with Dog and Cat Program Coordinators, other rescue groups, sponsors, article authors
  • Write-up pet profiles, occasionally write feature articles
  • Time commitment: ~20 hours a month
  • Skills needed: Familiarity with Microsoft Publisher OR prior experience producing a newsletter, attention to detail, experience with graphics and/or marketing a PLUS!

General volunteer opportunities

Encore Pets is entirely volunteer run. Without the generosity of our volunteers, we would not succeed in rescuing the dogs and cats that we do. We rely on each and every one of our volunteers. We are always in need of people to:

  • Provide care and playtime for our cats waiting for adoption at PetSmart in Morehead City
  • Help at various fundraising and adopt-a-thon events throughout the year
  • Event coordinators! We always need motivated, organized, self-starters to lead fundraising events. Events can be large or small: Bake sales, Car/Dog washes, any idea you can think of and help pull together.
